Wine with Wixy has been visiting the Glacier National Park area [Kalispell Montana to be exact] for the last couple of years, usually for one week during the summer. You see our friends, who I have talked about before, the Flying Flanagans summer in this area and it’s that time of year again!! [for us to go for a visit!!] It is kind of a vacation, but we do take our balloon along with us, and we have often flown a couple of flights while we are here so maybe a “workcation” would be more accurate. LOL

No matter what we end up doing, as far as hot air ballooning goes… Deb and I always make sure we get in some quality girl time!! This year, we happened upon Glacier Sun Winery!! They are located only like 5 minutes from the Kalispell airport and are known for their sweet/fruity wines. This is right up Deb’s alley since she is so sweet and likes sweet wine. It also makes a nice cool [even if it it may be a little too sweet for me] treat for us on a hot summer day. The tasting area is connected to a farmers market, bakery, and a small gift shop.

I must confess that I did not personally take the above photo. I’m thinking y’all may have guessed that already since we were visiting during the month of August, and there is snow in the photo!! Haha!! For some reason I didn’t take many photos here [shock and surprised gasps] so I got this one from their website, I thought the snow added a special touch!! Glacier Sun Winery was opened in 2011, by Dave Cordell and his parents Diane and Wayne. Prior to the winery, the family owned and operated a roadside produce stand in East Wenatchee, Washington.

Operating the produce stand for 15 plus years gave them the experience and connections they needed when they decided to transition the family business to a winery. They had the inside track, so to speak to the local fruits and varietals when producing their own rotating selection of fruity wines. They are known for their award-winning Huckleberry Peach wine. You can also choose from a variety wine of red, white, as well as the dessert wines they are so well known for. You can see a sample of the small bites they offer pictured below. YUM!!

.

Being so close to Glacier National Park, you may have an idea about how Glacier Sun Winery got its name. That’s the Glacier part, but this area is also known to be quite sunny. Add that to the farmers in the Cordell family and their connection to the land and agriculture and you get the Sun part of the name. Now, if I have to tell you about how they got the Winery part… then you should go back and start at my first blog and read them all again!! Hahaha!!

It’s always so sad for me when I see that “Permanently Closed” in big red letters on a winery I have visited when I go back to the website to get more information for my blog. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case here. I say "seems to be" because when I dug a little deeper, it states that Sun Glacier Winery is listed as “active” I know the farmers market and bakery are still there and open, but the winery is not. I believe the gift shop is also still open, it's where I took this photo below.. cute right!?

Next week Wine with Wix will still be in Kalispel, Montana. We will be stopping by another local winery so... y’all come back now, ya hear!?

Cheers to you my wine loving friends, and TTFN!!
